Chronicles of a Year~~2017 Part 2

2017 I began the practice of focusing on a word for the month, writing it on an index card, keeping it before me each day. Days turn to weeks, weeks to months and months to years, looking back and not remembering where those simple joys of the day went. What were the simple joys of the weeks and months that got me up each morning? I needed a guide, a way to remember. Although this is not an original idea, I made it my own. You can read about the general idea at  Ann Voscamp  or Lore Wilbert  at Sayable.

April…Believe= accept something as true, to have confidence in the truth

This month I spent time reminding myself to continue to believe and press on in this journey.

“…believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Acts 16:31

“The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” Mark 1:15

“That you may fear this glorious and awesome name, the Lord your God.: Deut.. 28:58b

May…BREAK habits that do not bring honor to the Lord my God.

Break my heart Lord for what breaks yours.

Habit= a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give

Break- separate or cause to break into pieces as a result of a blow, shock or strain, shatter, smash, crack snap

What habits should I break? I didn’t make a lot of notes this month on the subject of breaking habits, but I remember there were/are habits God is working on.

June…Fruit= the sweet and fleshly product of a tree or other plant; the result or reward of work or activity

Galatians 5:22-25

“…live by the Spirit, keep in step with the Spirit

  • love
  • joy
  • peace
  • patience
  • kindness
  • goodness
  • faithfulness
  • gentleness
  • self-control

These speak for themselves and is a life long journey of keeping in step with the Spirit.

January… Embrace=accept or support (a belief, theory, or change) willingly and enthusiastically.(Google) accept, take to one’s heart
  • -embrace strangeness as a Christian, our culture is changing, being a follower of Jesus is not always popular, viewed as strange if we embrace a biblical worldview.
  • embrace the empty(ish) nest..one of the reasons I began this particular practice, because my days, months and years would no longer be marked by a school year or events of that year
  • embrace where I live...
  • embrace turning 55-seems harder than 50
  • embrace is different than accept-embrace life each day WILLINGLY and ENTHUSIASTICALLY
  • embrace new friends
  • embrace humility; shut my mouth and be humble in mind and spirit
February… Engage in:
  1. More moments of humble submission to God
  2. More moments of foolishness exposed and wisdom gained
  3. More moments of courageous faith
  4. More moments of obedience to the pat of a sojourner
  5. More moments of forsaking the kingdom of self and pursuing the Kingdom of God (Paul Tripp)
March…Be Humble=not proud or arrogant, having a feeling of insignificance, inferiority(Google)

May God’s Kingdom come in all I think, desire, and say. May God’s Kingdom come in my marriage, family. work and leisure. May God’s Kingdom so rule my heart that stepping over God’s boundaries would no longer be attractive to me. I want to be like Mary.

Luke 10:42 “Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”

Rose Petals

Friends are like rose petals, some fall to the ground fading with time or distance, some petals  are vibrant, full of life, full of color and fragrance. The thing about rose petals, like friends, new or old, they are never forgotten.

I began this blog for you, my friends and family, and whomever else might find their way here. The intention was to communicate to the women of my Church and beyond to family and friends across the country. That still is my purpose over nine years later. The writing is at times sporadic, but for whatever reason, I have not been able to close down Jody Lynne. (my middle name for those new to my site.)

Rarely are roses personally purchased, but given to a loved one on an anniversary, Valentine’s Day or other special occasions. The memories remain of flowers given in love, much like each friend I have made over many years.

With all this in mind, I want to say this Thanksgiving season, how filled with joy and thanksgiving for the gift of all you in my life. Some I know well, others I want to know better, I hope you like coffee or tea! I am reminded daily to not take life for granted, not take people for granted. 2017 has been a year of trying to live each moment intentionally, not forgetting all those rose petals God has put in my life. Whether new or a beautiful vintage shade, I am thankful for each one of you.
Happy Thanksgiving!
