It was the summer of 2010 when I put my summer reading aside and began an in-depth study of Psalm 119. I studied to know God…love God more.

Out of that study came twenty or so devotions I wrote.

This fall I have the privilege of leading Bible study on Wednesday mornings and teaching the same material for a women’s Sunday School class. The rest of this post was written in early October.

Bible study this morning began with talk of plumbing, job loss without notice, to one of our members having a shoulder replacement and kids getting braces, to illness and praying for the rain to hold off so a house could be built. As our study began in Psalm 119:17-24 there was much discussion on delighting in God’s statutes, but also of the psalmist who is realizing his utter dependence on His Great God. These words came to mind as we continued our fellowship around the Word that is Sweeter Than Chocolate.

  • Transparency
  • Dependency
  • On my knees everyday for everything
  • Needy
  • Go to God

This Bible study and the Sunday School class I lead are highlights of my week as we come together to know God and throw ourselves at His feet in utter dependence on Him for everything.

My help comes from the Lord, Maker of  heaven and earth. Psalm 121:2

Yet, the same God who spoke heaven and earth into existence, is the same God who knows me, who saved me while I was still a sinner and delights in me.

I was stunned by this verse I read earlier this morning from 2 Samuel 22:20

He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me, because he delighted in me.

Not only does He show us how to obey and follow Him in Psalm 119, he wants us to know how much He loves us, He delights in us.

And just to sweeten the morning to add some lift to the seriousness(is that word?) our study, we pass around a bowl of chocolate.
