I used to think a writer was just one who writes, but I have become less generous. I think and believe now that a writer is one who withholds words from the public until they have gotten them right in private.Lore Wilbert
I think this is why I don’t say much about politics in this space. I withhold words for the public because I want to make sure I have it right before I say or write anything, but is it right to withhold words until we can get them ‘perfect’?
This is not a political post about who you should vote for, what policies I agree or disagree with, but a reminder of ultimately Who reigns. I was looking through my posts of four years ago, and while I did not write about politics or the election that year, I did write a post on the word Charitable. You can read it here. It was a reminder for me that you and I can disagree on many things and still be kind, be friends, get along, and even have dinner together. Sadly, that is not the message we hear on the evening news, but I want to be friends and eat together around the table with those I may not agree with on various subjects including politics and religion. While I am not the debater in our family, I still want to hear what you have to say. I think that’s one way I can love my neighbor.
It was no coincidence that I read Psalm 113 this morning.
As we go to the polls, vote, come home and watch the election results, may we remember
Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and forevermore! From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised.
The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens! Who is like the Lord our God, who is seated on high, who looks far down on the heavens and the earth?Psalm 113:2-6
