Yep!! It’s Monday again. Here in central New York, its gloomy again, with a snow storm on the horizon mid-week…again. We’re already under a storm watch, so my guess by tomorrow it will be a storm warning.
- What to do with another Monday?
- What to do with a winter that just won’t go away?
- Where to focus when the mundane of another week has appeared?
Words that come to mind are common, ordinary, a blur, nondescript and colorless. Actually, these words didn’t come to mind, they are synonyms of dailiness. These words pretty much describe my winter. Is white a color? It has been a season of slowing down, of pursuing God in the mundane. Because that is where I live. Where is it written that busyness is a virtue? Yes, I want to live life to the fullest and not waste a moment, but slowing down has helped me focus on what God wants to teach me during this long white winter.
While they were traveling, He entered a village, and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who also sat at the Lord’s feet and was listening to what He said. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks, and she came up and asked, “Lord, don’t You care that my sister has left me to serve alone? So tell her to give me a hand. The Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has made the right choice, and it will not be taken away from her. Luke 10:38-42
He wants me to draw near to Him in the busyness of life and the not so busy. Several things strike me in this conversation with Jesus who has come to the home of Mary and Martha. Martha is the epitome of hospitality. She welcomes Jesus into her home and then heads to the kitchen to finish her preparations for a meal. Mary, her sister had better things to do. Not only did Jesus tell Martha her sister had chosen the better thing, but Mary was not chattering away to Jesus but she was listening. There was only one thing necessary and Mary had made the right choice.
What will be my focus today? Will I choose the right thing?
The choice is ours.

…calmly go through my days protected by the Holy Spirit and soak up every single truthful word that God has to speak over me.
And at His feet.
Simply at His feet.(quote from a friend)
