As I  am writing this post I am reminded of my diligence a hundred years ago, well not that many, to seek a husband and set my heart on marrying him. Am I guilty of the same seeking and setting in my relationship with my Savior?

Who would have thought there would be great treasures in the book of….2 Chronicles? If you haven’t read 1 &2 Chronicles recently it is mostly about the life of David, his becoming King and how his son Solomon was entrusted with building the temple while wars were raging.

I began reading the OT a few months ago asking God to open my eyes and heart to what He wants to teach me about Himself. Some of the books of the OT, honestly, are hard to plow through, but I was determined to press on. How many times have I read 1 & 2 Chronicles passing over precious jewels of His Living Word?

Throughout these two books God tells His people to seek their God and set their hearts on Him. The Hebrew for seek is darash meaning

to investigate, enquire to ask for, require, demand to practice, study, follow, seek with application to seek with care, care for(Blue Letter Bible)

The Hebrew word for set is kuwn meaning

to be set up, be established, be fixed, to be firmly established, to be established, be stable, be secure, be enduring, to be fixed, be securely determined, to be directed,v aright, be fixed aright, be steadfast (moral sense), to prepare, be ready, to be prepared, be arranged, be settled (Blue Letter Bible)

There is nothing I can add to God’s Word so I will let it speak for itself.

Happy Monday!!

As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever. 1 Chronicles 28:9

I love David’s prayer in 1 Chronicles 29:10-13

Those from all the tribes of Israel who set their hearts on seeking the Lord God of Israel followed them to Jerusalem…2 Chronicles 11:16

He did evil because he did not set his heart to seek the Lord. 2 Chronicles 12:14

But there is some good in you, for you have removed the Asheroth from the land and you have set your heart to seek God. 2 Chronicles 19:3

O, our God, will You not judge them? For we are powerless before this great multitude who are coming against us; nor do we know what to do,but our eyes are on You. 2 Chronicles 20:12

Seeking and setting are deliberate acts of our will. It is a choice to seek God and set our hearts on Him. Where is He you ask?

You will find Him speaking to you through His Word.

And He was saying to them all, If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny Himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. Luke 9:23
