Intersecting Life and Faith

Dusty Women-Judy

Several months ago I came across Titus 2 Tuesday blog posts. Inspired to do the same thing I set out to make a list of my own questions. Women who have encouraged me to be a radical follower of Jesus. Radical in the sense they love God with all the heart, mind and soul and their neighbor as themselves. They are ordinary women who love and serve an Extraordinary God. Women I want to be like so the Word of God will not be dishonored. Titus 2:5 I wanted a catchy title other than God's Women, so I asked a friend for help and she said
what is something that defines us? Maybe not where we're from but where we're going? I always love the analogy of following Jesus so closely that you get the dust of your shepherd on you. Following in the footsteps of your Shepherd.  So you could call us Dusty Women.
I love the fact that she said we need to be defined by where we're going not where we've been. (Philippians 3:13-14) Judy is my sister-in-love, the wife of Rob's brother Rick. I wrote about her in the post Joy & Charlie. Judy lives with her family in Arizona, so we don't see each other very often. She is among those when I do see them, we just pick up where we left off, in person or on the phone.

Judy, would you describe yourself in 5-7 words?

Profoundly optimistic, playful, positive and possibly immature.

Briefly describe how and when you were rescued from the domain of darkness and transferred into the Kingdom of God. Colossians 1:13

My first trip to the alter was at a Billy Graham movie at the age of 11. I recommitted my life at the age of 20. I had a dream where I was flying. As I was landing, I suddenly was looking at my sleeping body in bed. When I opened my eyes I saw a figure looking out the basement window in my room and voice that asked "If I come for you today are you ready?"  I knew I was not as I was living a very worldly, undisicplined life. I began searching for the answer. It would be a couple of weeks and several churches later when I attended a church where I heard the invitation to recommit my life. I thank Pastor Jeff Hayes for his gentle spirit and bold words.

What do you enjoy about being a mother?

Watching my son enjoy his life and reach his potential. He is the most amazing young man. I really want to be more like him.

What encouragement would you give to a young mom struggling to make it through the day.

Lower your expectations! So much of our view of failure is based on our unrealistic expectations. We want to be June Cleaver (historical perfect mom for those who don't know her). The real truth is June was NOT REAL. She only wore a dress and acted nice at her JOB. She went home to a messy house, yelling kids and was exhausted. I think identifying what has greatest value to eternity, that is the list to work on. That might mean spending more time at Jesus feet, doing crafts with he kids, watching television with the husband even though there are 4000 other things you can think of to do. When I perfect this I will write a book.

What does God's Word mean to you?

It is hope, promise and above all the explanation for all that is in the master plan. Life does not always happen the way we expect it to, we don't understand. We are on this huge road trip but we can not see the details of each turn until the exact moment we need to. We really cant see the entire trip at all. His word gives us a road map for the final work. We stay on course we will arrive at the destination, whole and on time.

What does the Body of Christ mean to you?

It is the completed family. We are in pieces, millions of broken pieces. God fits us together perfectly so we are able to do all we are intended to.  We each have a specific purpose and function individually but when we are together we fill in each others cracks, we become whole, our vessel is able to 'hold water'.

Coffee or Tea?

COFFEE, I am just sayin. I like plain, black, rich coffee that is not bitter and that does not leave an after taste.

Vanilla or Chocolate?

Yes. 🙂 I LOVE chocolate, my favorite being white chocolate. Dark or mint following a tie for second. You  can read about other dusty women here.
