Confessions of a Farmer's Daughter

No Worries

Written By: Jody - Feb• 27•12

I’m giving up worries for Lent.  I can’t take credit for this idea. I don’t remember where I saw it. Possibly a cartoon on FB. I don’t typically give up anything for Lent but try to focus more on what Christ did leading up to the cross. This year I am reading The Incomparable Christ.

Philippians 4:6 is crystal clear about worrying. We are not to worry about anything.

Instead we are to rejoice in the Lord always, praying and petitioning with thanksgiving all our requests to God. The end result is the peace of God which surpasses every thought, and will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:7)

It’s so easy to worry about my kids, letting my mind wander to the ditch they are lying in, or worry about how we will pay for $5/gal. gas, or worry about who is in the White House, or what’s happening in the Middle East. There’s so much to keep me up at night…and yet God has said…do not worry.

There is freedom in not worrying, trusting God will take care of what I wear, what I eat or what I will drink. In fact, I’m not to worry about my life, God will take care of the kids He gave me, he will supply the gas for the car and He WILL take care of tomorrow.  It’s all there in black and white. (Matthew 6:25-34)

With God’s help and the meditation of my heart set on God’s Word, worrying will be no worries way beyond Lent and Easter.
